Join Windows XP Pro to a Samba PDC Domain |
This shows a step by step, of how to join a Windows XP Pro machine to a Samba PDC domain. This tutorial is in conjunction with the Samba as a Primary Domain Controller tutorial and has the same assumptions. First log in as an admin user, then open the control panel. ![]() Next, double click the "System" icon to open "System Properties". ![]() Then select the "Computer Name" tab. ![]() Then click the "Change..." button near the middle right of the dialog box, to open the "Computer Name Changes" dialog box. ![]() From here select the "Member of Domain" radio button. Ensure that the Computer name is the same as was create as a machine trust account in the Samba PDC setup. Insert the Domain the computer is to join. ![]() Press the "OK" button. You will be prompted to enter a username and password. ![]() Enter "root" and the password assigned to root in your samba password database. There will be a dialog box welcoming you to the domain, press "OK", then "OK" again, and then agree to reboot. After you have rebooted you can log into the machine using the username a password created earlier. |
