This shows a step by step, of how to join a Windows XP Pro machine to a Samba PDC domain.

This tutorial is in conjunction with the Samba as a Primary Domain Controller tutorial and has the same assumptions.

First log in as an admin user, then open the control panel.

Next, double click the "System" icon to open "System Properties".



Then select the "Computer Name" tab.



Then click the "Change..." button near the middle right of the dialog box, to open the "Computer Name Changes" dialog box.



From here select the "Member of Domain" radio button.
Ensure that the Computer name is the same as was create as a machine trust account in the Samba PDC setup.
Insert the Domain the computer is to join.



Press the "OK" button.
You will be prompted to enter a username and password.



Enter "root" and the password assigned to root in your samba password database.

There will be a dialog box welcoming you to the domain, press "OK", then "OK" again, and then agree to reboot.

After you have rebooted you can log into the machine using the username a password created earlier.
